Terrazze d’ell Etna | Rosato Brut | 2016
When you think of Sicily, images of tropical white sand, warm and bright transparent sea and rugged volcanic coastlines come to mind. Well, picture a beautiful fizz born from the volcanic soils of Etna and prepare to have your whole sparkling world, blown wide open.
Being huge fans of Italian sparkling wines, we loved this take on Pinot Nero (same as pinot noir) and local grape Nerello Mascalese blended to make this elegant example from this famous mediterranean island.
Light pink in colour, towards onion-skin. Slightly smoky blood orange (sanguinello) and some summer strawberry coming through. Wild and textured palate with bitter orange, aniseed and plush red fruit.
We love the slight bite from the light tannin too. This is an excellent style of sparkling from Etna and as all wines from this region, this works well with a variety of foods. This is calling for prosciutto, figs and other summer influenced antipasto. A Crab linguini wouldn't go astray either.
90% Pinot Nero & 10% Nerello Mascalese | 36 months on lees | High altitude fruit sourced from 750m-1000m ASL | Volcanic soil | 7 g/L dosage | 12% abv | 750ml
